The Bridewell Collectives Love and Lust Special

The last week has been so busy for me which is why I have only now been able to blog about this! The main event though was the second Bridewell Collective Event – hosted by myself, Lady Lucks Boutique and Flint Hair.

The beginning of the event consisted of some express appointments with myself for victory rolls. These appointments were aimed at those who wanted to give 1940’s victory rolls a try and also some advice on how to achieve them – they are tricky, but with some practice they are easily achievable. My clients were served cava and special valentines themed cakes made by myself. You can see some photos of my clients (and cakes!)below.

After the appointments we moved next door to Lady Lucks boutique where we joined other guests. There we were served cherry ‘love punch’ which was absolutely delicious – thanks jade! There was also more cake to be eaten, including that provided by The Window coffee shop.  We were lucky enough to get an exclusive performance from The Badhatters and the Scantily Clad who performed a specially written piece for the space. Before this event I had never seen them perform and I was so impressed! The piece was relevant, funny and sexy, and those girls can dance! Please go and see these girls if you get an opportunity! Earlier that day I had the opportunity to style 3 of the girls hair, which was great fun. They also had their hair cut and coloured by Flint Hair. Natasha and Conor did a great job – you can see the results of our work in the photos below…

Flamingo Amy Photoshoot

All week I have been watching the weather forecast in anticipation of the photo shoot I had today. I knew it was going to be cold, but needless to say I was not impressed when it showed snow for the weekend. I was mortified walking to the chip shop last night when a blizzard started, but fortunately I had nothing to worry about as when we stepped outside early this morning the sky was blue and the ground lightly sprinkled with snow, it was so pretty!

We shot at several locations including a friend’s house, so chosen because it is full of amazing vintage stuff! I was particularly keen to get the flying ducks in the kitchen in the photos and am very pleased with them!

The photos were taken by photographer and friend Naomi Cousins who has taken photos for me before, always with excellent results, thank you Naz! My models Hannah and Brita looked marvellous and were wearing vintages clothes by Empire Vintage and from their own collections. They braved the cold very well – thank you for letting me traipse you through snowy Norwich!

Flamingo Amy at the next Bridewell Collective Event...

The Bridewell Collective are serving up a Valentine’s treat with a difference this February. So come along to 14 and 16 Bridewell Alley on Friday 12th from 4pm onwards for another fabulous evening of pampering, entertainment and vintage fashion from your hosts Flint Hair, Lady Luck’s Boutique and Flamingo Amy.

Flint Hair will be running a series of 30 minute express appointments which include colour treatments, consultations and perhaps a new fringe!

Flamingo Amy will be available for 20 minute appointments at Flint Hair, giving you the opportunity to have your hair styled in victory rolls and sharing with you her techniques and quick fixes to help you achieve that glamourous 40’s and 50’s look.

Lady Luck’s Boutique will be stocking gorgeous vintage inspired underwear and gifts (including some very sexy little numbers) that will add a touch of fun and glamour to your Valentine’s weekend.

The evening will be wrapped up at Lady Luck’s Boutique around 7pm with a much anticipated performance by Norwich based the Bad Hatters and the Scantily Clad. All will be washed down with some ‘love punch’ to get your weekend started!

That was 2009...

I suppose everyone is doing this at the moment but I just wanted to give you a quick re-cap of my year, as it's been one of the most productive of my life so far, and I couldn't have achieved what I have (much more to do yet!) without the help of many people.

On a personal and business level I have:
Passed my driving test (oh, the torture)
Got married
Started a New Career

All of the above I thought I would never do!

2010 is going to be hard work and hopefully tremendous fun! Coming up in the new year I will be expanding my portfolio as a vintage hair stylist and am looking for many exciting opportunities. Watch this space!

A big 2009 thank you goes to Nina's Hair Parlour (all the staff!), Flint Hair (all the staff there as well), The Bridewell Collective, Helen Stonley, Naomi Cousins, Julie Elgar and all my clients! (I'm really sorry if I have missed anyone!).

Thank you all for supporting me throughout 2009. To 2010 and beyond!

First blog for ages, sorry!

It’s been a while since I wrote a blog for the website but that doesn’t mean that nothing has been happening! Between now and then I have been styling hair in both London and Norwich. The place I have been working in Norwich is a new salon called Flint Hair and can be found in Bridewell Alley. This is perfect because next door is Lady Lucks Boutique, which is run by Jade Heaviside. Lady Lucks Boutique sells all sorts of retro inspired accessories and lingerie, but best of all are the selection of handbags. I have two myself and will definitely be adding to my collection! I highly recommend you pay a visit.

Last week myself, Flint Hair and Lady Lucks Boutique teamed up for our first ever event. We have named ourselves The Bridewell Collective and the evening consisted of myself giving some vintage hair demonstrations at Flint and Lady Lucks Boutique hosting some superb music by Paul Finlay and Naomi Cousins. There were some delicious homemade mince pies (I ate…a few…) and hot mulled wine. Despite the horrendous weather the turnout was good (snow, bitter winds), thank you to everyone who came! Below are a couple of photos of the event and my finished work - thanks for modelling Jade!

In other news I will be having a photo shoot at the end of January in Norwich. I am very excited about this, as I haven’t done a photo shoot before and can’t wait to work with the models. The photographer is Naomi Cousins (sound familiar?)I am hoping that the weather will be dry and not raining and windy, as of course that is the worse thing possible for hair! As backup we do have some indoor venues, phew!

Flamingo Amy at Nina's Hair Parlour

So, this weekend I had two lovely models come in to Ninas Hair Parlour. I hadn't practiced on people I did not know before so I was a little nervous, but they were both so lovely so I had nothing to worry about! I learnt an awful lot that day; although I have been into vintage hair for years I had never used rollers before, so I got to grips with them, and I also got to use the 'hot sticks' on Sinthia. These sticks work really well, and look like snakes or spaghetti when they are in the hair! They are quite tricky to use, but the result is well worth the trouble. Of course, I needed to get some photos of my handy work, but I forgot to bring my usual camera and only had the camera on my phone, so I apologise for the picture quality. Below is a picture of Miss Sinthia Darling.

From Saturday 25th April I will be charging a small fee of £15 to style your hair (cash only). Please contact me to book and appointment! Hope to see you soon!

Clutter City March 09

I had a stall at Clutter City, Norwich Arts Centres again last Saturday and despite the weather there was a good crowd! I had a wide variety of customers and it was also great to socialise with some of the other stallholders. I had a couple of new things that I had made especially for the event, including a single red and purple rose with leopard print on some of the petals. I also used some Swarovski crystals on some of the clips, which certainly caught people’s eyes. I just love them, such good quality and sparkly bling! Perfect for any posh night out or wedding. I would love to make a flower completely coated in crystals, but I think that that would be very expensive and possibly pretty heavy! I may consider it for my wedding in September though ;)

Modelling for Flamingo Amy

When the fabulous Miss Dee Lite offered to model some Flamingo Amy items, could I say no? Of course not! Have you seen this girl? She teamed up with Paul Wright and produced some amazing pictures! Some of which are on this site. Please take a look and also check her and Paul out on myspace (see my links). A massive thank you to you both!

Clutter City - Thank You

Just wanted to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who attended Clutter City at Norwich Arts Centre today. I had a great time and it was great to see everyone. Here in Norwich, we are so lucky to have such an event that allows arts and craft people a platform to sell their stuff.  In March Clutter City will be one year old, amazing! I was at the first one and it really doesn't seem that long ago!

Below is a photo of me at my stall, I think I had a good spot, next to the entrance to the auditorium, so that everyone can see you on the way in and out. As you can see on the left hand side of the photo, there is what I suppose you would call a 'wall grave stone' (if anyone has the correct name for one of these, let me know!), I have hung my flamingo lights over the cherubs head! It was a bit odd looking, but I couldn't fix the lights to the table. Such a great venue!

Thanks again, and see you next time!

The New Sale Page

Since Flamingo Amy started in February of this year, I seem to have accumulated quite an assortment of different flowers. Sometimes, I think I have sold all of a particular flower, then, one day I find that there is another one of these sneaky things lurking amongst my other stock! So, what I've decided to do, is to create a 'sale' page to offer the last of these beauties to you at an amazing price. Here you'll find some great bargains! Please take a look!

Rhythm Riot and Leaflets

Ahh, I've just got back from Rhythm Riot in Camber, East Sussex. What an amazing weekend! I'm both very tired but refreshed at the same time if that makes sense! It was an inspirational weekend and everyone looked great! Just before I went I got some flyers printed, and I absolutely love them! They were designed by the amazing Linda Gundersen, graphic designer extraordinaire! If you are interested in distributing my flyers at a club night, or perhaps you work in a shop that is relevant to what I'm selling, then please contact me and I will send you some. Hope you all had a great weekend, whatever you did!
